Mum Daily

Donna Davies

I've been married for almost 32 years and I have been a mother for nearly 28 years. Our son Drew lives in California with his wife and our first Granddaughter. So I am enjoying my new role as Grandmother, although it's a long distance relationship. Our daughter, Anna, is 25 and living back at home after five years living away. It is such a gift to share life with her now as a mature young woman. Anna has been our ‘strong willed’ child, with a mind of her own from the moment she announced to the world “I have arrived!” I began my journey of learning in my 40’s after being a full time ‘at home’ Mum for fifteen years. I went to TAFE and did a Diploma of Community Services and then worked in Family Support - giving help, advice and encouragement to families struggling with the challenges of being a parent and dealing with the family environment and all that holds. I then went to Christian Heritage College and studied a Bachelor of Social Science (counselling) degree. I began a Counselling Practice at home called “Talking Stick” for women and girls from fourteen years of age. Talking Stick offers general counselling helping with #Self awareness #Grief and Loss #Anger issues #Relationship and #spiritual issues. i am honoured to be able to walk along side mums on their day to day path of being a “parent” and to offer my thoughts, encouragement, tips and advice from this space. I look froward to sharing the ride with you!

Why Memories Matter

I was told a very inspiring true story recently that I would love to share with you. I only hope I can do this story justice. A lady was told she couldn’t have children, so without trying she found herself pregnant quickly! She was overcome with awe, amazement, wonder, gratitude, love and excitement. So she

A Letter To Myself

Now I’m a Nonna and have raised my own children, I can relax and watch as my son parents his little girl. I think back to myself as a young mum and I wonder what words of wisdom I could share with her. The things I know now – hmmm… I’m always learning and growing

Mother’s Guilt

We all go through it! We want to do the whole ‘Mother’ thing perfectly and then those feelings creep in when we put a toe out of the tight boundaries we have carefully, over a lifetime, built around ourselves. Guilt does have a purpose – it warns you when you may have said or done

Taking Time Out

In June I began a long arduous journey of ill health. I just couldn’t get past feeling lousy! One day I was cruising through face book and a quote jumped off the screen and hit me in between the eyes. It read “when our thoughts are negative our immune system is weakened”. Hmm….yes I knew
