Ahhh… reminiscing
Remember when your first child was born, and you held that precious bundle of possibility? Remember the emotions that welled up inside, the pride and joy of this beautiful new life? The thoughts that passed through your mind that you really weren’t sure what to do because this brand new baby was completely reliant upon you. But at the same time the dreams you had for him/her you were determined to see through.

As parents it’s our job to set the mode and culture in our homes.
If you’re like most parents, myself included, you will have noticed that it is often easier not to take the time to set the tone and culture in our homes, especially with our busy lifestyles, work schedules, and pressures from so many areas.
I have to remind myself every day.
I have to continually remind myself that if I don’t take that time to deliberately, positively reinforce that culture, I will have to take time later in life to try and build that culture, or deal with the consequences of not putting in that culture earlier. Wow, that was heavy… sorry about that, but when you’ve dealt with teens and young adults who now wish they had this culture implemented in their home, or hear the pain and regret in parents’ voices, after not doing this, it becomes a powerful reminder.
OK.Time to lighten up again… As a parent, deciding to take control actually brings a lot of freedom (and hard work). Ironically, at the same time making life so much easier and your family a whole lot happier.
A good parent is a good leader.
This doesn’t mean being a dictator. It’s about being a strategic leader and working with your family. Whether your family has one parent, or two, one child or 9 (not as unusual as you might think). Try to agree on the culture and values you want your family and children to have. To do this we need to implement leadership skills to get everyone on the same page.
