No Makeup Selfies – Saving lives or just Slacktivism?

After much ‘umming & ahhing’ I finally convinced myself to go makeup free. It’s quite liberating actually.

I wasn’t going to do it. Labelling it another campaign advocating ‘slacktivism:’

slacktivism
ˈslaktɪvɪz(ə)m/
nouninformal
1. actions performed via the Internet in support of a political or social cause but regarded as requiring little time or involvement, e.g. signing an online petition or joining a campaign group on a social networking website.

But then I read this article revealing that The ‘no make-up selfie’ trend has helped charity Cancer Research UK raise more than £1 million through 800,000 text donations within 24 hours.

Being one of the biggest health concerns for women in the Western world, chances are that you, or someone you love has been effected by Breast Cancer. So, if going makeup free helps to play a small role in finding a cure, I say: Go for it!

Get your photo on twitter with the tag: #nomakeupselfie and don’t forget to make a donation to your local Cancer Council.
